I saw the temporary memorial for the WTC victims tonight on ABC. Personally, I think those twin towers of light are the perfect way to remember what happened: during the day the place of the towers is empty, while at night the spectral image will not let anyone forget. The only downside to such a memorial? It'll cost NYC an arm-and-a-leg to pay the electricity bill for a year-round monument. "We do want to get married and have kids and stuff like that - however, maybe in 15 years time." If you thought Princess Di was ostracised by the royal family, just wait...it would make those state occasions more interesting, though.... Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS) blamed the 9/11 attack on the Clinton sex scandal. He said that Pres Clinton was too busy having sex with White House intern Monica Lewinsky to effectively deal with the potential threat. (via Fark) I am inclined to agree with his initial statement, but not for the reasons he has given. I think the sex scandal was a concerted attempt by Republicans to cripple the President. The smear campaign & resulting media circus was so successful that it distracted the administration--as well as the rest of the country--from important issues like Middle East peace, terrorism, health care concerns, etc. At one point, there were over 200 FBI agents working on the Clinton sex scandal. What could those FBI agents have uncovered had they been working on important issues? I guess we'll never know now. If anyone should be to blame for 9/11, it's the Republican Party. |
