AMERICAN TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION Go here and check out over seven minutes of gun camera footage from an AC-130 gunship on a mission in Afghanistan. Amazing. (link via Flit) NEED....CABLE......TV.... I've been gorging myself on the network TV coverage of the war. Why, you ask? I'm a news junkie. I admit it, and I've heard that admitting you have a problem is the first step... UP TO THE TASK? House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) has handed Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) a chance to score points on the Republican Party. Here's what the House Speaker said in response to Daschle's criticism of Dubya: "Senator Daschle has spent more time criticizing the leadership of President Bush than he has spent criticizing the tyranny of Saddam Hussein."...<snip>..."Those comments may not undermine the president as he leads us into war, and they may not give comfort to our adversaries, but they come mighty close."What a golden opportunity! What Daschle's reply should be is something like this: "I would like to ask the House Speaker since when is it "un-American" to voice dissent? This country was founded on dissent. If not for the courage of Thomas Paine, John Adams, and the other Founding Fathers to speak out against injustice and tyranny, this country would not be as great as it is today. Dissent is also protected in the Bill of Rights under Article I. Or has the Speaker forgotten that in his quest to squash those of differing opinions? You know who else crushes dissent? Communists, fascists, and petty thug dictators like Saddam Hussein. You need to think about what you're saying before you speak, Mr Speaker, to avoid putting your foot so deeply in your mouth. The Democrats are too passive. They need someone to be more in-your-face in response to all of the Republican smear tactics. When they are spouting bullshit, call them on it! NO TEARS I find it very hard to feel sorry for the American human shield that was run over by an Israeli bulldozer. What was she thinking? Was she really expecting to face down the large earthmoving vehicle? Did she want to do what that gutsy Chinese student did in Tianamen Square back in '89? If so, she needed to think her facts through a bit more. The Chinese student was able to stop the tank mainly because the tank crew didn't want to run over their own countryman. The Israelis, on the other hand, had no such fear, the building being Palestinian and all. Israel has shown time and time again a certain ruthlessness in dealing with the Palestinians. A kind of ruthlessness that stems from having over six million of your friends and family members killed because you weren't organized. A kind of ruthlessness necessary only because that seems to be the only message that most Palestinians are capable of comprehending. Bulldozers are not fast moving vehicles. She could easily have gotten out of the way. She saw it coming. She made her choice. Idealism is fine and dandy, but it should be tempered with a bit of realism and intelligence. Otherwise, it's just tomfoolery. Tuesday, March 18, 2003
Via CNN: "If the war starts and if (President) Saddam Hussein uses chemical or biological weapons, it would change completely the situation for the French president and for the French government, and President (Jacques) Chirac will have to decide what we will do to help the American troops to confront this new situation."Didn't France deny that Iraq even had NBC weapons? Apparently they don't even believe their own bullshit anymore. If they ever did. In all fairness, the above quote was mistranslated. What it really meant was this: "If Saddam uses those weapons that we denied even existed, we know that there's a chance that Bush will turn Bagdad into a smoking glass crater. In that event, we want to be seen as being on the winning side in order to prevent any possible PR blowback. After all, we're still allies, right? Yay, team!"Never trust a turncoat. Especially one that doesn't stick to their principles. |
