RECORDS? WHAT RECORDS?

The Texas Department of Public Safety ordered the destruction of all documents and photographs gathered in the search for the Democratic state legislators who fled to Oklahoma to prevent passage of a redistricting bill.
The DPS issued a statement Wednesday saying it destroyed the records because federal regulations prohibit it from keeping intelligence information that is not part of a criminal case.
...
But state Rep. Kevin Bailey, the Democratic chairman of the House General Investigating Committee, said it appears that that is true only for a federal investigation or an investigation funded by federal money.
...
Texas law generally requires that records be kept for a period of time, but it was unclear how those guidelines applied in this case. A spokeswoman for GOP Attorney General Greg Abbott said it would be a crime to destroy records that had been requested under the Texas Open Records Act.

Three Democratic state representatives filed a request Monday for all documents about DPS involvement in the search. However, it was not clear if any requests were made before the records were destroyed.
Wasn't Enron based in Texas, too? Perhaps the culture of shredding incriminating information is more prevalent down there...

...AND YOU'RE SUPRISED WHY?

Saddam Stole Billions From U.N.

Does this truly suprise anyone? I would think that the sheer number of palaces the man had would have clued in most people.
"Everybody knew it, and those who were in a position to do something about it, were not doing anything," said Benon Sevan, the executive director of the Office of Iraq Program.

...

To questions about whether there should have been intense scrutiny of the companies and evidence of wrongdoing, such as illegal money being funneled to Saddam, Sevan said, "We don't do that. I'm sorry."
The U.N. turning a blind eye to corruption, eh? Wasn't the "oil-for-food" program administered throught the French oil company TotalFinaElf, the same company being investigated for corruption? Hmmm....interesting thing, that...

NEW LINK

New link on the left. Yes, Beakiebean is the new gf.

SHALL I GO 0-FOR-2?

Geez, I spend the weekend with the gf and what happens? Minnesota gets itself eliminated from the playoffs.

Ottawa is also on the verge of elimination, down 3-1 to New Jersey.

Am I a curse?

MY SIDES ARE SPLITTING!

Saw "A Mighty Wind" this weekend. It was done by the same team as did the films "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best In Show", not to mention the stars of "This is Spinal Tap". Not quite as funny as I had hoped, but I still walked out of the theater with a stomach ache from laughing so hard. A word to potential viewers: the funniest jokes are the most subtle ones--pay attention. Oh, and I can already do a very good impersonation of Mitch. Yeah, it's a talent...

Debating whether I want to pick up the soundtrack or not. On it is a folk version of the Rolling Stones song "Start Me Up".

Heh.
