GET MY LAWYER ON THE PHONE! Ellison Crusades Against AOL It's no wonder that his books are out of print--he's sued almost everyone in the industry. Now he's crusading against AOL. Ellison is a brilliant author, but a nutjob of a human being... PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN! I was pondering the whole Niger-uranium thing today. The reason that people are getting so worked up about it is that although this specific example isn't a "smoking gun" that the Administration lied to the American people, it is symptomatic of the culture of deception that has been the modus operandi of the White House since Day 1. The American people don't like being deceived (see also - Watergate/Richard Nixon), and this is the most blatant example of the Administration's political agenda, a snapshot of a "crime against truth", if you will. I have to admit that I, too, was snowed under by their curious line of reasoning, so nobody is immune to their siren songs. Further intriguing is the Administration's reaction to all of the heat that the story is generating. First it was the CIA's fault, then Condi Rice says that the info was true, and that technically the President didn't lie because of how the passage was worded, and now we're hearing that it was actually a flunky in the State Dept. that screwed up. Apparently, Dubya isn't patient (or is it smart?) enough to read all of the briefing materials sent to him on these important topics, so it can't be his fault... This reminds me of a military aircraft throwing off chaff to evade a radar-homing missile. The White House is throwing out as many different stories as it takes to take the heat off the President and get back in the good graces of their increasing herd of critics. Sooner or later, the simple-minded American people will find at least one explanation that they can wrap their tiny little minds around. Or so they believe. We're wising up to their constant line of bullshit. We're smarter than we look (at least how we look to them). We'll see how smart we are come November 2004. |
