Newspapers decide how to handle gay marriage announcements

IT MUST BE CONTAGIOUS!

Same-sex couples trade wedding vows in N.Y. college town to cheers of crowd

Best quotes:
``What we're witnessing in America today is the flowering of the largest civil rights movement the country's had in a generation,''

``We have to show people who we are,'' he said. ``We've been badmouthed by religious zealots. We've been deprived by President Bush, and we have to show people that we're your friends, neighbors and family.''

``This country was founded on a revolution,'' he said. ``And this is a revolution, but it's a revolution of love.''
Perhaps someone should contact the CDC, as this appears to be spreading by word-of-mouth.

SEPARATE, BUT UNEQUAL

Bush amendment proposal prompts strong reaction
Civil unions grant couples most of the rights of state civil marriages, except the name, but provide none of the federal benefits of marriage, such as Social Security benefits.
I guess it isn't the same thing after all, is it?

Also:
"These are the desperate acts of a desperate president who is going to try and drag this country through a cultural war to jump-start a failing campaign," she said. "He is not acting as the uniter he promised to be. He is absolutely dividing here, and hoping to conquer. This is a huge distraction, because he has no answers to the real problems that impact and affect American lives."
You tell 'em, sister!

"THIS WILL BE HIS LEGACY..."

Andrew Sullivan has a reader roundup of reactions to Dubya's support for a Constitutional amendment.

It seems to me that Dubya fucked up by making an issue of this. Big time.

Hopefully, I'll still be around when the future historians begin to demonize him for trying to hardwire discrimination into the defining document of this nation.

WHAT'S GOOD FOR THE GOOSE...

Gay Democrats ask for marital history of GOP legislators

The moneyquote:
"We think it is fair to ask during this debate how many legislators who are demonizing gay marriage have actually committed the most grievous possible injury to the institution they claim to want to protect," said Linda Perdue, president of the Indiana Stonewall Democrats.
I guess I'm not the only one that thinks that divorce is more damaging to marriage.

Heh.

UPDATE: link fixed.

"LIKE A ROCK", MY ASS!

One of the most pleasant suprises from last year was my discovery of the Tom Waits album "Bone Machine". Simply fantastic. I think it's the third best album he ever did (the first & second being "Alice" and "Blood Money"--you decide which is which).

Anyway, a few weeks ago, R was listening to the song "In the Colosseum". When the chorus came around, she swore that it said "Kill Bob Seger, kill Bob Seger, kill Bob Seger toniiiiiiiight...."

I think she has some Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band issues, but you be the judge...
